The Blog Begins

Well B and I just purchased our first home together April 30th, 2012. And here is the place we would like to share with you the process of turning or (kind of) updated 1947 ranch house into a charming home that's so us. But first, a quick rundown of how we found this place.

B and I started looking around October of 2011 once we first moved into a one bedroom 560 square foot apartment. We started seriously looking around March of 2012. While I spent all the hours I could squeeze out of the day online looking at house after house my mom was hitting the streets eyeing open houses and newly listed homes. At a random drive by "oh, look they're having an open house!" is where we met our realtor. Once we had our realtor we saw about 25-30 homes. Until one day mom came home with a list of address to look up online. We checked through the list not really liking too much of what we saw.

We had just agreed on settling for one bathroom in order to get the other things on our wish list (hardwoods, midtown neighborhood, fireplace, charm, 3 bedrooms). So there is one address left on the list and mom almost doesn't even mention it. The outside isn't exactly what we were looking for, but it had so much to offer on the inside.

We found all of our wish list in this house and then some. For starters it has two full baths (this is unheard of in homes from this time so it's part of the add on in the master), it has indoor laundry (again, add on), it has close to 1,700 square feet (which is beyond huge in our eyes), it has a gas and stainless appliances (minus the refrigerator that we had to purchase), it also has a one year old roof/ac/heating/water tank.

So taking into consideration all of these things and the fact that we really only needed to put in curb appeal persuaded us to take a look at the house two days later and put in an offer that night. We heard back in less then 24 hours and with one counter offer/negotiation we got the house.

So...if ya wanna. You can check back here and see what we're up to with The House on Darlington.
